You can tell it's an older castle because it's so tall.  Once cannon were in regular use, all English castles were very low to the ground.  Some castles, such as Dover, were even lowered over time.

I didn`t know that! and since I haven`t made it to Dover yet, I`ll keep this in mind when I go visit it :D

Dover is a good one because there's a lot to do in town.  Especially in the summer, but you can make a day of it in the winter too.  British command in WWII was stationed in Dover and you can go into their underground headquarters.  

Deal is a half day at best, but if you're already down in Kent, do go see it.
